Gilt title bright. Edges stained red. Coated reddish brown endpapers have a few small chips. Interior fine, clean and tight. Tinted portrait of Joan as frontispiece, tissue guard intact. Grimke (1792-1873) with her sister Angelina worked for the abolitionist cause in Philadelphia; they brought the issues of woman suffrage to the movement. This book is a greatly condensed version of Lamartine's biography. SOLD
