[HASUI] Akiyama Aisaburô. SHINTO AND ITS ARCHITECTURE. Kyoto: Japan Welcome Society, 1936. Large 8vo., woodblock printed paper over boards covers. Prelims, 127pp. Twelve 17.6 x 11.4 cm (image size) color woodblock prints by Kawase Hasui bound in. 15 b+w photo plates (some folding) as well. This is the first edition (a reprint was issued in 1955). The woodblock prints are skillfully printed by the famous Watanabe Shôzaburô, Hasui's lifelong publisher. The book is about fine, without the slipcase. An overzealous reader has lightly pencil-underlined a good part of the text. The print impressions are very good to fine. Though small scale, the book includes several iconic Hasui designs which appear nowhere else and were often removed from the book. Complete with all 12 prints, as here, unusual.
